Metal Injection Molding (MIM) is a Molding process in which a plasticized mixture of Metal powder and binder is injected into a model. It is a mixture of the selected powder and binder, and then the mixture is pelleted and then injected to form the desired shape. Polymers impart their viscous flow characteristics to the mixture and contribute to the uniformity of forming, cavity filling, and powder loading. After forming, the binder is excluded and the defatted billet is sintered. Some sintered products may be further densified, heat treated or machined. The sintered products not only have the same complex shape and high precision as those obtained by plastic injection molding, but also have similar physical, chemical and mechanical properties as forgings. The process technology is suitable for mass production of small, precise, complex three-dimensional shape and metal parts with special performance requirements.

As a near-net forming technology for manufacturing high quality precision parts, MIM has advantages that cannot be matched by conventional P/M, machining and precision casting methods.

Small metal parts with complex shape (0.1-500g) can be produced as plastic products.

All parts have uniform organization, high dimensional accuracy and high relative density (≥95%).
